The Badlands were located in southwestern South Dakota. I don't know much about the scientific things, get more details from the official website: http://www.nps.gov/badl/index.htm :p
The beauty of the Badlands is so amazing and how great it formed from very long time ago. These striking geologic contain one of the world;s richest fossil beds. Also it include of the wilderness likes prairie dogs, buffalo... This area is open for backpacking and picnic.

Sunset
I spend around 5 hours at Badlands in the morning and go another time for the sunset because the pass is valid for a week. Here's a nice place for the sunset though! Stop at many viewpoint because it looks so different from different angel. There's a trail for you to hike and get closer to the land. I really enjoy this place!
